Shadow of the Road Characters: The Party Roster So Far

Shadow of the Road builds its party around a found-family escort story: two disgraced rōnin guarding a boy who might end a war. Here is every confirmed member of the cast so far, based on the open alpha and developer interviews — the studio has hinted the launch roster may grow beyond this.

The mission: Toshiro

Toshiro is the reason the story exists — a 14-year-old boy with immense, uncontrollable powers, the one the Shogunate’s spymaster says can change the course of a war his side is losing. Young and desperate to prove his worth, he is escorted, protected, and argued over for the entire journey. See the Toshiro profile.

The companions

• Asuke — Toshiro’s mother, who joins the escort. A spellcaster who manipulates the turn timeline itself — and, working with her son, can transform into the arachnid yōkai Jorōgumo.
• Ishida — a yōjimbō (bodyguard) originally hired for Toshiro’s stepfather Kenjiro. The party’s frontline bulwark: a massive armored frame whose kit includes a stunning headbutt and a no-dachi sweeping arc that flattens enemies larger than ordinary grunts.

Around the party

• Kenjiro — Asuke’s husband and Toshiro’s stepfather; rude and relentlessly aggressive about staying on top of his profession. The man Ishida was hired to protect.
• The spymaster — Tokugawa’s own spymaster recruits Satoru and Akira for the Toshiro mission. Name not yet public.
• Their dead master — the lieutenant whose death in the opening battle costs the protagonists their honor and sets everything in motion.
